Safe Delivery Partnership

Parts of Hull still have high crime rates and suffer from poverty.  It is clear that these factors have an effect on the health of Hull’s neighbourhoods and the City’s potential to achieve.

Efforts to develop the City’s economy and create a skilled workforce rely on safer, stronger communities where people want to live. This involves improving homes, the environment, schools, local services and public transport, reducing crime the fear of crime and antisocial behaviour, and promoting healthy living.

Our aim is to make Hull a safer, stronger City where there is less crime and less people in the City in fear of crime.  In relation to this, local people have already seen a commitment to working in a partnership. ONE HULL has, in the past, funded or part-funded a variety of projects including CCTV, Community Wardens, Community Copshops, City Centre Ambassadors and more recently an innovative SmartWater project, all of which are aimed at reducing crime and the fear of crime.

This partnership working has been facilitated by the City’s Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership, also known as the Safe Delivery Partnership of ONE HULL.

Members of this group have been selected to achieve the targets set out in the Community Strategy and create a better City. They will monitor progress and regularly report on how it is performing in meeting those challenging goals.

The Safe Strategic Delivery Partnership (SDP) of ONE HULL is responsible for the following areas and focuses its resources on delivering improvements in the following:

More specifically, resources are focussed on delivering improvement targets which are set and agreed with government in Hull’s Local Area Agreement 2 (LAA2).

Safe indicators in Hull’s second Local Area Agreement are:

By achieving these safe aims along with the rest of the Sustainable Community Strategy we will make Hull an attractive place to live, increase the quality of housing, reduce crime and the fear of crime and improve the environment of the city’s neighbourhoods. We will improve people’s physical health, reduce the number of people who smoke or are obese, and help to build communities that include everyone and have the power to manage themselves and influence decisions about how they live.

The work of the Safe SDP does not stand in isolation.  It is only one part of the overall ONE HULL Vision.  In addition, there are three other SDPs whose remits are to deliver the economic, health and wellbeing and children and young People’s aims and objectives of the Sustainable Community Strategy.

We recognise the importance that no-one must be excluded or treated unfairly because of where they live, their race, age, sex, religion, sexuality or disability. The Partnership also recognises that carrying out our work will ultimately have an impact on the City’s cultural offering, particularly through physical regeneration, and also affect resident’s lifestyles and choices. We are committed to ensuring that our work does not impact negatively on the environment and that the implications of our work – regarding climate change issues - are considered.

We aim to make the City safer and stronger where there is less crime and to reduce the number of people living in fear of crime.  We aim to make a City where people have a choice of good quality, affordable housing where every home meets the Decent Homes Strategy by 2010, a City with a quality living environment and whose residents are healthy, productive and most importantly feel well in themselves. We also want to make Hull a healthier City and will do this by addressing issues such as coronary heart disease, smoking and tackling Hull’s high rate of teenage pregnancy.

Everyone is entitled to a good quality of life, regardless of their background. Local people want to live in an understanding City where they are empowered to make choices in a society where a rich diversity of cultures is seen as an asset.

We are committed to developing the full potential of the City and its people, addressing inequality and promoting social inclusion. Through the delivery of the Sustainable Community Strategy, we will actively promote diversity and the benefits diversity brings. We will also seek to ensure that Hull is recognised nationally as best practice in relation to equalities and diversity work.
