Working Neighbourhood Fund

Reducing crime and the fear of crime, improving health and attainment at schools must go hand in hand with creating further learning opportunities and securing new jobs.

The Government’s Working Neighbourhood Fund (WNF) has been created to develop community-led approaches to getting people in the most deprived areas of England back into work.

Based on a city’s level of deprivation, Hull received an allocation of approximately £38m over three years (April 2008 to March 2011).

The WNF Strategy was refreshed in 2009 to guide the channelling of the remaining WNF in 2009-11 on tackling issues associated with worklessness, particularly in response to the economic turndown.

Administered by the Local Strategic Partnership, ONE HULL, initial steps have seen the fund channelled into a series of 14 initiatives; these focus on tackling worklessness, as well as the employment, skills and training of future workforces. A further 9 initiatives have just been agreed.

For more information about WNF initiatives, or selected case studies, please contact Vicky Branton, ONE HULL Strategic Development and Funding Support Officer on (01482) 613340 or email vicky.branton@hullcc.gov.
